PHILLIP ISLAND

Phillip Island is one of Melbourne, Australia's best kept secrets. It is full of natural beauty, spectacular scenery and abundant wildlife. It is also full of adrenaline filled action, sport and music. All this and only 90 minutes drive from the centre of Melbourne, Victoria!

If you look at a map of Victoria, Phillip Island is 140km south-east of Melbourne. It backs onto Bass Strait, so many of its attractions come from being close to the water. The weather in this part of Melbourne ranges from 12 to 35 degrees C depending on the time of year.

The best known attractions are the penguins at Phillip Island. Every night around dusk, the Phillip Island fairy penguins make their way up Summerland Beach on their way to their burrows in the surrounding sand dunes. Watching the nightly parade of penguins on Phillip Island is one of Australia's most loved wildlife experiences.

Phillip Island is host to one of Australia's largest fur seal colonies at Seal Rocks off the Nobbies and is also home to a large native koala population at the Koala Conservation Centre.

Phillip Island is also known for its events, such as the World Championship Superbikes and the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix at the Phillip Island Grand Prix circuit, where for a few weekends every year, the roar of engines fills the skies.

When visiting, you can either choose to stay on the island as holiday accommodation on Phillip Island is plentiful and of good quality or stay in one of the many Melbourne accommodation options and pick up one of the regular buses to the island.
